Can Emotional Intelligence act as a Predictor of Personality Traits in Undergraduates?

Before you decide to whether to take part it is important that you understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following carefully and ask the researcher if you have any questions.

What is the purpose of the study?
This study aims to explore whether an individual's emotional intelligence level has an impact on their personality traits.

Why have I been invited to take part?
You have been invited to take part because you are an undergraduate student and the University of Worcester's Psychology Course is supporting this project.

Do I have to take part?
It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part in this study. Please take time to decide. If you wish to have your data withdrawn please contact the researcher with your participant ID up to seven days after taking part, and your results will not be included in data analysis.

Procedure - What will happen to me if I agree to take part?
If you agree to take part you will be asked to complete two online psychometric tests, which will ask you a number of questions relating to your emotional intelligence and personality. The questionnaires will take between 10-15 minutes in total to complete and you will receive an email to thank you for your participation and further support on the topic.

Please be advised that your results in the emotional intelligence questionnaires will have no repercussions for you as a person and in this instance are purely for research and educational purposes.

Your individual results will be kept confidential by the researcher and not to be shared with any outside organisations. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE ARE NO RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWERS TO THE TEST. The information you give may be used for a research report, however it will not be possible to identify you from the report. The research data will be securely stored. If you choose to take part, at the start of the experiment procedure you will be asked to generate a participant ID (using the first two letters from your first name, the first two letters from your surname along with your year of birth, e.g. LUSP1995). PLEASE KEEP THIS SAFE FOR FUTURE CORRESPONDENCE.

Are there any disadvantages or risks to taking part?
This research should not cause any form of physical or psychological harm, however should you require any support following the study please contact the University of Worcester counselling department (0190585 5417/5107) or the local Samaritans (0190521121)

Who is organizing this research?
This research has been approved by the University of Worcester Institute of Health and Society Ethics Committee.
